Close it your way.

Five ways to wind down. Pick one, then move the lid.

The desktop softens, then slips into darkness.

A little atmosphere.
Nothing extra.

Made to feel at home on your Mac,
and stay out of your way.

Your screen stays yours.

No desktop recording. No telemetry. Dusk’s native effects need no Screen Recording permission.

Follows your movement.

Stop halfway and the effect holds. Open your lid and everything comes back into focus.

Always in your hands.

Only the built-in display changes. Pause from the menu bar or press ⌃⌥⌘K to clear the effect.

A few things to know.

Will it work on my MacBook?

Automatic effects need a compatible Apple HID hinge angle sensor. Development checks covered an M3 MacBook Air; support varies by model. Unsupported sensors leave your desktop clear, and you can still use the app’s simulator and four-second preview. See compatibility notes.

Does the website read my actual hinge angle?

No. This is a synthetic Three.js demonstration controlled by your mouse, touch, or keyboard. The native Dusk app reads the hinge sensor locally. The browser preview approximates the effects; macOS controls the native backdrop blur.

What about accessibility and normal sleep?

Dusk uses Fade when Reduce Motion is enabled. It keeps normal macOS sleep behavior and clears effects on pause, quit, sleep, and stale sensor readings. The overlay is a visual effect, not a lock screen or a privacy boundary.

Can I contribute, including with AI tools?

Yes. Dusk was built with substantial Codex assistance under the maintainer’s direction. Focused patches, hardware reports, and accessibility improvements are welcome. Read the contribution guide and AI policy.
